Introduction
Fondaparinux sodium is a synthetic anticoagulant drug approved by the FDA for the treatment and prevention of various venous and arterial thromboembolic disorders. It is clinically indicated for patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery of the lower extremities, such as hip fracture surgery, major knee surgery, or hip replacement surgery, to prevent venous thromboembolic events.

Challenges in Fondaparinux Sodium Separation and Purification
Fondaparinux sodium is of synthetic origin, and its synthesis involves complex carbohydrate coupling, hydrolysis, hydrogenation, and sulfonation steps. The numerous reaction steps and complex conditions readily generate multiple impurities, imposing stringent requirements on downstream separation and purification. Conventional purification typically employs classical ion-exchange resins (e.g., Dowex), with purification cycles lasting up to 72 hours or longer, which poses significant challenges for industrial production and increases purification costs.
Purification Results
NanoMicro leverages high-resolution ion-exchange chromatography resins to meet the purity requirements of fondaparinux sodium while dramatically shortening the chromatography purification cycle. The batch purification time is reduced to 2 hours with a purification yield of >80%, greatly improving process efficiency and reducing purification costs.
